TIGER CUBS OVERVIEW

Tiger Cubs is an exciting introduction to the scouting program for first grade boys (age 7 years old).   Tiger Cubs do stuff - lots of stuff! This program is intended to open up the world to their inquisitive minds along with the caring guidance of adults. The first steps along the Boy Scout Trail are laid here and every rank advancement through the scouting program builds on the basic categories of activity done as Tiger
Tiger Cub Handbook

This book is for Tiger Cubs and their parents or guardians.  It tells about the Tiger Cub program; gives information about dens, leaders, uniforms, and advancement; and includes ideas for planning a den program. Den leaders, as well as a parent or guardian, approve each achievement by signing his book.
Tiger Cub Uniform

The uniform is an important part of the Scouting program, especially for the youngest boys just starting their boy scout trail. It identifies the boys and adults with Tiger Cubs and gives them a sense of belonging to the den, the pack, and the Boy Scouts of America.

Scouts enjoy wearing their Tiger Cub uniform. They should wear it to all den meetings, pack meetings, and special pack activities.
The current Tiger Cub uniform is the official blue Cub Scout shirt with blue/orange neckerchief and neckerchief slide. There is also an official Tiger Cub cap and blue web belt with a Tiger Cub buckle. There are also blue socks with orange band to complete the uniform. Each scout also receives a T-shirt which is only to be worn for hikes, beach-clean-up and camping.

Bobcat Rank
Picture
No matter what age or grade a boy joins Cub Scouting, he must earn his Bobcat badge before he can advance to the rank of Tiger Cub, Wolf, Bear, or Webelos. A boy must complete the Bobcat requirements, which include:

  • Learn and say the Cub Scout motto, the Cub Scout Promise, and the Law of the Pack and tell what they mean;
  • Show the Cub Scout sign, salute, and handshake and tell what they mean; and
  • Show that you understand and believe that it is important to be honest and trustworthy.

A Little Tiger Trivia
  • Tigers had a totem that was hung from the belt until 2006. It was replaced by a totem that hangs from the right pocket, similarly to the Wolf and Bear progress beads.
  • In 2006, the Bobcat rank became the first rank earned by all Cub Scouts, including Tigers. The Tigers had their own motto:  Search, Discover, Share. Today, Tigers use the Cub Scout motto:  Do Your Best.
  • For a few years, up until 2001, the Tiger Cubs had their own promise to memorize. Former Tiger Cub Promise:  I promise to love God, my family and my country, and to learn about the world.  That has been discontinued and they now use the Cub Scout promise: I, (say your name), promise to DO MY BEST, To do my DUTY to GOD, And my Country, To HELP other people, and To OBEY the LAW of the Pack
